Vanagloria is Dominique Ropion's study of vanilla, and Ropion is about as big a name as modern perfumery has. He built it around one exceptional material: Bourbon vanilla pods from the Indian Ocean, cold-extracted with CO₂ so you get the whole bean and not just the sweet part. Gourmand, floral, leathery and spicy at once.

Saffron and a pineapple accord open it, and the saffron pushes the vanilla towards leather. Frankincense and tonka follow, the incense giving it a smoky, almost mystical haze, before it settles into deep vanilla and musk. The opening can feel a bit strange at first. Wait for it, the drydown is the point.
