Denmark deserves to smell better
NOTES is a small parfumerie in Aarhus bringing rare, independent fragrance houses to Denmark.
No mainstream.
Perfume was my hobby long before it was my job. I'd spend hours smelling, reading and falling down rabbit holes, and the more I discovered, the more I wanted other people to discover it too. At some point keeping it to myself stopped making sense.
So in January 2025, I took the risk and opened NOTES. No investors, no big plan on a whiteboard, and on paper it probably looked a bit impossible. But I believed in one thing: perfume is more than scent. It's storytelling. The right one can bring back a memory, shift your mood or make you feel something you didn't expect. That's what I wanted to bring to life for people here.
Every bottle has a reason to be here.
In a world of the same perfumes in every department store, I chose a different path. I find the independent houses and the unusual ingredients, and bring them home to Aarhus. But a perfume only really comes alive when someone wears it.
We're a small team now, though most days you'll still find me behind the counter. I pick every fragrance on the shelf, and every visit and every question shapes where this goes next. Some of the brands are here because a customer pointed us towards them. Many of them you won't find anywhere else in Denmark.
So NOTES isn't really my story anymore. It's ours.
— Rasmus, founder of NOTES
Worn before it's sold.
Every house on the shelf is one we've smelled, worn and fallen. If a perfume doesn't have something to say, it doesn't belong here.
